Since my early childhood I was fascinated by Ophthalmology, which is for me the most beautiful branch of medicine. Considering that I was also the child of the professor of ophthalmology, for me, this path for career was very clear and obvious. After graduating from high school and successful completion of studies at the Faculty of Medicine in Banja Luka, I did all that was possible so that one day I could call myself “ophthalmologist.” Fortunately, I was very lucky and shortly after graduation I got a residency in ophthalmology at the Clinical Center in Banja Luka.
The effort and work of each ambitious and hard working student is worthless without talented, dedicated and selfless mentor. In my case, there were two amazing mentors who made it all possible for me to become what I am today in professional sense. The first person is my late father, who did not just convey a love of ophthalmology, but also was the biggest support for my career. The other person is my “second father”, prof. Nikica Gabrić, founder and owner of the Clinic ‘Svjetlost’. He taught me not only the knowledge behind ophthalmology and new skills, but also the philosophy and psychology of life. Thanks to him, today I am not only a better ophthalmologist, but also a better person.
Treatment of diseases of the eye is not always easy, but it is certainly always interesting. Living and working in a developing country and region is full of challenges and excitement. Therefore, I am proud to say that I was part of the team that, way back in 2008, first performed laser eye surgery in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Today refractive surgical procedures, such as LASIK, Epi-LASIK, PRK and LASEK are part of my daily routine, and truly I could never be happier about it.
In addition to my everyday professional and scientific activities, I enjoy in my management position as well. I am at the head of Clinic ’Svjetlost’ in Banja Luka for almost eight years. All my colleagues, doctors and nurses, are valuable young people that make me proud every day.
